The Science Behind what we do

Myofascial Release

Many different treatments fall under the umbrella term myofascial release. It is commonly used term for orthopedic massage. Myofascial release massage therapy is a corrective hands-on massage technique that can be used to treat myofascial pain. It is a form of manual therapy that involves the application of a low load, long duration stretch to the myofascial complex, intended to restore optimal length, decrease pain, and improve function. In this technique, the practitioners uses pressure or weight to release the fascia with the aim at improving extensibility and mobility. In another technique, the practitioner applies less pressure, encouraging the fascia to slowly ‘unwind’ itself until greater movement is achieved. Myofascial release massage can:

  • Reduce pain
  • Release knots / trigger points
  • Improve movement and flexibility
  • Improve muscle function
  • Enhance circulation by breaking up tight areas where blood flow may become restricted
  • Reduce exercise-related soreness

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a more focused area of Deep Tissue Massage that has existed for millennia and remains popular among athletes and non-athletes alike. Sports massages work to lengthen and relax deep tissue. It is not a single modality but a combination of massage techniques such as effleurage (sliding, circular movements), petrissage (tissue kneading and/or pressure), friction (pressure application), and application of vibrations. This type of massage helps manage pain and increases a person’s range of motion. It also provides relief of muscle tension and stiffness and promoted faster healing of strained muscles and sprained ligaments. It reduces muscle pain, swelling, and spasm, promoting greater joint flexibility and range of motion, thus enhancing athletic performance. Sports Massage can provide many benefits for various conditions, including injury, chronic pain, and certain diseases. During our Sports Massage we utilize Physiotherapy, a modality well known and used in Europe. Physiotherapy is a manual therapy which helps treat injury, deformity, and disease. It can also help manage pain, balance, mobility, and motor function.

Therapeutic CBD Massage

CBD Massage Therapy uses Cannabidiol (CBD) oil lotion to release the entangled fascia and promote pain relief. CBD is the second most active ingredient in Marijuana. It is derived from the Hemp plant, which is the same species of plant as Marijuana. However, there is less than 0.3% of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in the Hemp plant. It is also used to make clothes, soaps, cosmetics, ropes, etc. Unlike Marijuana, CBD does not cause a “high”. CBD is beneficial due to the Endocannabinoids System (ECS), which is a combination of these endocannabinoids, the receptors they fit into, and the effects this has on the body. Throughout the nervous system and body, there are receptors. There are also natural molecules produced by the human body called Endocannabinoids, which fit into these receptors. When CBD binds to these receptors, it positively influences the body' s organs, glands, and various tissues. It also helps to maintain the body's homeostasis. CBD can influence pain perception and immune system functions such as inflammation, appetite, cognitive functions, sleep, and anxiety. The CBD lotion we use is a Pharmaceutical grade and it is scientifically manufactured to efficiently absorb into the skin, using Micellar Nanoparticle Technology (MNP). MNP enhances the surface area for absorption up to one hundred-fold. The CBD oil from the lotion is released slowly and continuously into your bloodstream over a 24-hour period. This promotes pain relief and eliminates the occasional soreness on the the next day after a deep tissue or sports massage!

Plantar Fasciitis

 A common foot injury, plantar fasciitis is caused by inflammation of the fibrous sheath that wraps around the sole of the foot called the plantar fascia. Since plantar fasciitis is essentially a repetitive strain injury to the fibrous tissue of the sole of the foot, massage therapy is a helpful treatment for relieving that strain. In particular, deep tissue massage is the technique of choice for heel pain caused by plantar fasciitis. It is particularly helpful because it loosens the tendons, ligaments, and fascia that have become painfully tight over time, returning them back into their normal state.

Prenatal Massage

Prenatal Massage Therapy can help reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of mood swings, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health.   The benefits of prenatal massage include a wide range of physiological, emotional and psychological benefits.  Some benefits are as follows:

  • Alleviates stress on weight-bearing joints and muscular-fascial structures;
  • Assists in remedying many of the common discomforts experienced during pregnancy;
  • Increases blood circulation, which provides more oxygen and nutrients to both mother and fetus;
  • Stabilizes hormonal levels and helps relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes;
  • Soothes and relaxes the nervous system by releasing endorphins into the mother’s body. As a result, the expectant mother feels relaxed, falls asleep easily and sleeps deeper;
  • Offers a natural, safe, drug-free alternative choice for pain relief, since taking of medications is often limited during a pregnancy for the sake of the unborn child.

Comfort Craft Table

This table is used for structural alignment treatments. It is comfortable and the ideal tool for an effective therapeutic massage. The technology in this table is designed to elevate your massage experience and is solely meant for remedial massages.  The dynamic shape of the table allows for different body positioning, and provides the massage therapist with the ability to do bodywork in ways that a normal massage table does not. Its cushions and attachments provide the most comfort for the client in any position during treatment.
